the Mediterranean sea bass is delicious! the lasagna and stuffed spicy peppers - yummy! the the service is great, they really make you feel welcomed. the place is cozy and fun with a brick wall and "grandkid toys" all around you. there's a set Italian cuisine menu and then there's a little portion of the menu that changes every week. would love to come back and try different dishes.

Great food in a truly warm old school atmosphere. Despite the outward appearance the restaurant is not at all too crowded and it is clear that the owner is committed to the experience of each guest. Food is carefully prepared and top notch. Our server Mimi was amazing. The only downside is that it is impossible to get a table here near events at St. George, but there is a good reason why! Definitely try this restaurant if you can get a table.

Amazing food! I love the open kitchen and seeing the nona making our food. Wine selection is great and the mood/atmosphere is elevated with a sense of nostalgia and contentment.Great place for families and dates. To top it off, taking the Staten Island Ferry gives one an amazing view of NYC, Statue of Liberty and the surrounding coasts. After eating some satiating foods, getting a buzz on from wine and heading home after sunset, the NYC bound ferry is incredibly magical! The black sky behind a foreground filled with sparkling skyscrapers and metropolitan misery fills the heart with awe, beauty and overwhelming humilty.. "NYC will eat you alive in the most smelly, condensed version of a black hole"

I was very excited to try Enoteca Maria after iÒ€ℒve been suggested to go from a friend last year.As much as i love the concept and the idea behind it of having one italian nonna and one international nonna cooking home made food every day, i was pretty disapponted by italian foodÒ˜¹ï¸I went with a friend, we are both italian born and raised and we thought the dishes were more italian-american rather than authentic italian. We tried the melanzana antipasto, nonna lasagna and branzino. Our Falanghina bottle of wine was very good.Still very happy that i tried it!

Here I had one of the best empanadas I've ever had in my life. There was an Argentinian nonna cooking the night my party went, and we loved every dish. The flavors were complex and hearty. The ambiance is comfy and dim, wine selection is expansive, wait staff is helpful and kind.Walkable from the Staten island ferry too!

This restaurant is warm and inviting, with truly delicious food. The staff is passionate about the food, too, which is a good sign. My partner and I are queer, and we went there for our date night, and we felt totally comfortable. Highly recommend this place!

Enoteca Maria exceeds even our highest expectations. We love the atmosphere there: busy but welcoming and cozy. The staff are always friendly, professional, attentive, competent and can speak to the menu from experience. The owner, Jody, is very well versed in wine language and always recommends the most amazing wines. The "Nonna" concept keeps us coming back for more. We love culinary diversity and Enoteca satisfies our curious taste buds. The food is always fresh and nothing beats a home cooked meal that I didnt have to cook myself! Their prices are reasonable for exceptional food and service! We've been here many times and were never disappointed. We have already made our next reservation!

Must have reservations and cash! Excellent service, fantastic food, causal setting, flip flops & shorts approved. Plan your trip by Staten Island ferry if you're in Manhattan, nice quiet getaway from the throngs of people in the other boroughs.

This restaurant is well known for its unique menu and rotation of Nanas who determine the menu of the day. The food is excellent. The decor is very nice also. Very friendly staff. My only knock was, l would have liked an oil dip with the great bread they serve, and if you like garlic a lot, make sure you ask for it when you order...

One of the best meals I have ever had. Took my fancy Manhattan coworkers there, they loved it and are bringing people there now. Amazing food and staff. 2 blocks from the ferry. How can you not go?

After reading other reviews I didn't have high expectations, but wanted to give it a try anyway. Went there without a reservation, got a table in the very end (the restaurant was half empty, but fine, we did not book). Ordered two dishes (see pic) both around 23$, waiter told us he would bring also kind of an appetizer. We never saw that appetizer on our table (but very well on the tables of others). The food wasn't terrible, but very low quality. The paella (it was from nonna from Lima) was completely overcooked and garnished with a very cheap side salad. The prices are a shame for what they serve. On the menu they unkindly ask people to tip the servers and they take 'cash only, to keep the prices low'. Dear owner think about it, maybe there is something wrong with your concept and not with the people eating there, if you have to remind them to tip. I felt completely fooled and regretted spending my money there.

Incredible concept, lovely atmosphere, great service. Focaccia is a must try. We had a Brazilian nonna visiting, so we tried the empanadas that were also SO good.We tried the gnocchi, lasagna, picchari, and raviolis. Raviolis and lasagna were definitely the standout dishes. ItÒ€ℒs close to the ferry, so definitely worth a try if youÒ€ℒre looking for a ferry ride.

Have been here multiple times now and not once have I been disappointed. The staff is always welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable. The food is outstanding no matter which nonnas are there during your visit, which they have various different nonnas featured depending on the day, so you can have traditional dishes from around the world! Highly recommend this to place to anyone; locals and those just visiting NYC.

Such a great idea for a restaurant. Everyone knows grandmas cooking is the best! They have a rotating menu depending on which grandma is cooking. We went the night of a Russian grandmother so that was a treat! They have a great wine selection and atmosphere. The owner stopped over to say hello and everyone working was so friendly to us.

Sat in the corner, in the cut. There was good vibes probably from the good reggae music playing. But wait the food was good too, I had the srimp cocktail and spicy Burger, the food was tasty and not over powering... I also enjoyed the ambiance.

My husband and I came here for the first time last Friday. The restaurant is quite small but I believe that's what makes it intimate. The waitresses were very helpful at providing us with suggestions regarding what to pick from the menu. It was a Tokyo night and we ended up ordering almost everything from that menu. The food was well prepared and tasted very fresh. Sesame cheesecake was really delicious. Overall we loved the experience and are looking forward to coming back to experience other cuisines. It would have been nice if the restaurant were not "Cash Only" since these days less and less people carry cash. Nevertheless, highly recommend this place!

An incredible experience. Two grandmothers, one Italian and one from somewhere else in the world make food Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It's hard to get a reservation but if you can, go. Joe, the owner is very passionate about his restaurant and makes sure everyone at the restaurant has a great experience.

This place is a definite must. All of the food we had was incredible (especially the gnocchi and cheese stuffed filo dough) and made fresh that day. The menu changes daily as the Nonna's do, but can guarantee each day is phenomenal. Check out some of the Nonna's cooking as you mosey over to the bathroom in the back.

Best restaurant experience I've ever had. Warm atmosphere, good music, friendly staff, and the food was outstanding. During my visit they were serving Palestinian cuisine. It tasted absolutely incredible and was obviously made fresh with high quality ingredients. Italian food is always available too (also grandmother-made). I tried a few bites from a friend's order and it was definitely made with the same quality and care. If I'm ever in NYC again I will absolutely be coming back.

This place is the bomb!!! I almost hate writing about it because I loved the meal so much and it donÒ€ℒt want it to get so popular that we canÒ€ℒt ever get a reservation, but regardless. You should go. The premise is so wonderful. Nonnas of the world. ThereÒ€ℒs a grandmother from Naples who cooks every night and thereÒ€ℒs a different international nonna who creates a separate smaller menu every night. When we went it was a Brazilian grandmother who made some bangin empanadas. They also bring out focaccia that is just killer. I had a ravioli dish that was served in a walnut cream sauce, which was unusual and surprisingly delicious. The service was fantastic and the staff incredibly friendly and helpful. The wine list was extensive and I only wish that we were hungry enough for dessert because it sounded and looked incredible. CanÒ€ℒt wait to come back soon.

Ever since I visited Italy, I've been looking for some authentic, simple, Italian cooking. This Staten Island joint, a short walk from the ferry terminal, is perfect, and I love their concept of a "visiting nonna," a visiting chef who brings authentic recipes from their experiences from various parts of the world. The food is phenomenal and expertly prepared, full of flavor, and super fresh, just like what you'd expect fantastic Italian food to taste like. Definitely check this place out.

This restaurant is CASH ONLY!!!!!The experience here was so amazing. We were blessed with an Italian and Egyptian grandmother today. The food is amazing!!! You will definitely want a nap after eating here. The customer service was great as well. My group and I had Chris as our server and he was helpful and entertaining. He helped with our drink options and provide great customer service. I highly recommend this place.
